Camera Types Used in Under Vehicle Inspection System
Under vehicle inspection system captures and monitors underside image of the vehicles with a highresolution color/monochrome industrial cameras. System specifies suspicious objects after under vehicle scan process and takes them into a frame on the monitoring screen. In general, area scanning and line scanning cameras are used on the UVIS (Under vehicle inspection system) market. Now, we will talk about the technical specitications and advantages&disadvantages of these two type of cameras.

Both area scan and line scan cameras are preferred for machine learning in the industry. Line scan camera is a strip that quickly captures one row of pixels at a time as the camera is moved over an object or the object is being moved under the camera. In constrast, area scanning camera (also called regular camera) takes still photos of a specific two-dimensional area. The important difference between these two camera types is whether they are suitable for non-linear motion or not. Not all the time, vehicles pass over from the UVIS at linear speed. The underside image of vehicles that do not drive at a linear speed are not displayed properly in line scanning cameras, but they appear properly in area scan cameras. This characteristic is one of the most useful features of area scan cameras. On the other hand, area scanning cameras are more costly than line scanning cameras. In summarize, although area scanning cameras are more expensive than line scanning cameras, UVIS suppliers are more preferred area scan cameras due to their “non-linear motion” feature.
